Calling an electrician is no fun.  Most of us don’t know who to call or trust so we usually don’t unless there is a real emergency. Nowadays, we spend a lot of money on our entertainment systems.  Most of us have our big beautiful TVs mounted to the wall which creates an ugly problem-UGLY CORDS!

Before, there were only 3 main solutions…

  1. Pay a professional tons of money to rewire and hide the cables.
  2. Buy some crappy cable management cover that doesn’t do anything but make you look cheap or
  3. Live with your shame of having ugly cables hanging down from your gorgeous and expensive system

I face this similar problem recently.  Bought a new giant TV.  Its super slim and perfect for mounting on the wall.  Of course, at my house, all of my power outlets are a foot off the ground so I would have to have a cord hanging from the TV to the outlet.  Lets also not forget about the other cables involved.  I have direcTV, so thats another cord thats going to hang from the TV.

All-in-one TV stands suck, I’ve never seen one that looks good and completely ruins the whole point of having a super slim TV.  Even if you’re thinking of buying a really nice table, wouldn’t it be cooler to have the TV mounted on the wall above it where it looks like its floating in mid-air?

My wife is more obsessed with cable management than I am.  Late one night she discovered this https://amzn.to/2NHrgBE

The idea is so simple, its genius! All you have to do is basically insert the top plate behind the TV mounted on the wall directly below the other plate thats the same height as the power outlet.  It includes an up-to-code power cord that runs behind the wall to the bottom plate.  For less than $60, it basically takes the place of hiring an electrician to get that perfect setup!

Now, you’re probably wondering how complicated this is and how long it will take.  Trust me, I’m an idiot and it took me about an hour total.  I’m not kidding about idiot.  I do not know the first thing about electricity, plumbing, carpentry etc.  This kit is pretty idiot proof.  It comes with a trace guide that you can put up on the wall and trace out the exact size you need to cut the drywall.  Ideally, you’ll need a stud finder, drywall saw and screwdriver (although you could probably get away with less).  The only real trick is that you’ll want to cut your holes between your studs and please do not do it directly over the wall outlet.  Just move over from there.  Follow the step by step instructions and you will be totally fine.

Once you cut your holes out, everything else just falls into place (literally).  The cables drop in from the top plate and you pull them out from the bottom, then everything connects from there.  The only real reason it took me an hour, was cleanup.  Cutting drywall will produce a lot of dust and debris.  Just get your vacuum cleaner out.

Realtors out there?  There is absolutely no excuse to showcase a house that has exposed cables in their entertainment systems.  Nothing screams out low quality and “I wonder what else they cut corners on” then sloppy cable management setups throughout a home that is for sale.  You’re not selling a college dorm room!

Some of you out there already have power up by the TV (lucky you!) and just need cable management for the Audio, Cable, Satellite etc. Get this one https://amzn.to/2L9jI8O You’ll save some money since it for your low voltage connections only.
